Ho Chi Minh city Government focuses on off-the-shelf stem cells

Ho Chi Minh city Science and Technology Department announces 04 focusing programs in Feb 9th 2018. At this time, Director of Ho Chi Minh city Science and Technology Department introduces 4 focusing programs for Ho Chi Minh city from 2018 to 2020. Focusing programs are expected to engage with key industries, foster linking research with commercialization, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Stem Cell program is one of 4 programs that is introduced at this time. From 2018 to 2022, Ho Chi Minh city will focus on development of some off-the-shelf stem cells, especially mesenchymal stem cells, that used in the healthcare and disease treatment.

Ho Chi Minh city is the origin of stem cell research and technology in Vietnam. At here, the first stem cell clinical application has been performed since 1995 that used hematopoietic stem cells to treat the leukemia. Ho Chi Minh city also has the first laboratory for stem cell research at University of Science, VNUHCM from 2007.
